HIGH FIVE®
Chisholm Services for Children is a registered HIGH FIVE® organization, and the recipient of Recreation Nova Scotia’s HIGH FIVE® Achievement Award 2012.
HIGH FIVE®, founded by Parks and Recreation Ontario, is Canada’s only quality standard for organizations providing recreation and sport program to children aged 6 to 12. Through a quality assurance process, HIGH FIVE® supports the safety, well-being and healthy development of children. At Chisholm Services for Children we strive to make every activity one that is based on HIGH FIVE® principles and design guidelines, contributing to healthy child development both physically and emotionally.
HIGH FIVE® is based on a simple set of Principles, identified by research as essential for healthy child development; these are:
- A Caring Adult — fostering positive relationships with adults
- Friends — using strategies to help children make friends
- Play — identifying strategies to keep play in recreation and sport activities
- Mastery — supporting children to achieve success and a feeling of accomplishment
- Participation — creating program environments that maximize participation
HIGH FIVE® principles are rooted in three design guidelines which include the following:
