HIGH FIVE® is based on a simple set of Principles, identified by research as essential for healthy child development; these are:

  • A Caring Adult — fostering positive relationships with adults
  • Friends — using strategies to help children make friends
  • Play — identifying strategies to keep play in recreation and sport activities
  • Mastery — supporting children to achieve success and a feeling of accomplishment
  • Participation — creating program environments that maximize participation

HIGH FIVE® principles are rooted in three design guidelines which include the following:

  • Developmentally Appropriate
  • Safe
  • Welcoming of Diversity and Uniqueness
